The BioSA Incubator is Australia’s first purpose built facility to grow early stage bioscience companies.
The $12.9 million ‘BioSA Incubator’ building is located in South Australia’s high-technology hub at Thebarton, close to other major bioscience companies and just outside the Adelaide CBD.
“The BioSA Incubator will help to fast-track the growth of South Australia’s dynamic bioscience industry,” Mr Rann said.
“The incubator will help our bioscience companies take their work from research to commercialisation - creating jobs and opportunities for the state.
“The $12.9 million dollar centre is unique in Australia – with a combination of tailored laboratories, office space and conference facilities.
“It also meets the objectives of our Strategic Plan by fostering innovation and creativity and growing prosperity and I’m confident it will provide a substantial return on our investment.”
The BioSA Incubator is home to six early-stage biotech companies: CPR Pharma Services Pty Ltd (formerly The Centre for Pharmaceutical Research Pty Ltd), Floria Biosystems Pty Ltd, Jurlique R&D Pty Ltd, Pharmaceutical Packaging Products Pty Ltd, Reproductive Health Science Pty Ltd, and Signostics Limited.
All tenants in the 3,600 square metre facility are early-stage South Australian bioscience companies with strong growth potential.
“Bringing businesses together in the BioSA Incubator will help lure further venture capital investment to a rapidly expanding sector,” Minister for Science and Information Economy, Paul Caica said.
“It creates a huge advantage for South Australia’s bioscience sector. It will not only foster our local bioscience start-ups but has the potential to encourage bioscience companies from other parts of Australia to move their operations to Adelaide.”
“In South Australia, our industry has a reputation worldwide for excellence; a culture of innovation; a highly skilled workforce; a sophisticated infrastructure and effective collaboration between research, industry and government,” said Dr Jurgen Michaelis, CEO of Bio Innovation SA.
The BioSA Incubator building was designed by Henn Architekten, one of Europe’s leading architectural firms, and is modelled on successful bioscience incubators in Europe. The building has been designed to be adaptable as companies develop and to encourage innovation.
