Raising Finance

Once a company reaches a stage of maturity at which significant financial assistance is required to reach the next phase of technology commercialisation, such as clinical trials, prototype testing or scale-up manufacturing, institutional investment is usually sought.  This predominantly takes the form of angel investors, bank loans or venture capital investors.

Venture capital investors are dedicated to creating or growing companies that will develop and market products and services that meet unmet market needs.

VCs expect investee companies to:

  • Have outstanding management teams
  • Own key intellectual property and know how
  • Have a pipeline of potential products
  • Have the potential to achieve an IPO or trade sale within 3-5 years at a valuation in excess of 10 times their invested capital
  • Generate revenues that minimise equity capital requirements
  • Develop technology platforms that generate multiple products
  • Have projected/potential markets in excess of $100 million
